Howson birdied five of her opening nine holes and also recorded her lone bogey before the turn.
“It feels pretty good to be one of the top Canadians,” said the Murray State freshman-to-be. “Someone has to push the California girls a little bit. I’ll definitely take confidence from this round and give it a try."
